Finding the Perfect Photographer for Your Wedding

Alright ladies. Your wedding is coming up. From the dress, to the church, to the cake, to the reception, you’ve got countless plans to make. Surely you’ve touched on the issue of a photographer, and since it’s your wedding, you want to make sure that every detail is perfect, including the pictures that capture the occasion.

Every photographer has a different style, and every bride has different preferences. So, it would stand to reason that once you match the bride to the photographer, magic happens. Some brides opt for a more traditional approach, with traditional poses and traditional photo effects. The wedding party assembled on the steps of the church, the happy couple cutting the cake, or sharing their first dance. Others may want to bring out the sillier side of their wedding, and capture pictures of the newlyweds shoving cake in each other’s faces, of the groom taking off the bride’s garter with his teeth (much to the embarrassment of the bride’s father), and Uncle Patsy trying to dance with the bride after having way to much champagne. Some photographers go for more tried and true approach to picture editing, sticking to black and white, color, and simple effects. Others may experiment a bit more with colors, backdrops, and subjects. It all depends on your preferences.

Another aspect of the search that is undeniably important is price. Depending on where you live, when you’re having your wedding, and what your expectations for the pictures are, the cost could range anywhere from five hundred to ten thousand dollars. If it’s the off season, some photographers may consider giving you a deal, or a couple of add-ons. Research onlineĀ  and around the area where you live. Compile a list of possible candidates, take a look at their portfolios, and interview them to see if they’re someone you would like to work with. Tell them about your wedding, and ask them what they envision capturing. If it meshes with your ideas, great. If not, move on to the next one on the list.

Also ask about post production. Will the photos be printed in the photographer’s lab? Will a CD of the pictures be available? Will they be put online? Does the photographer’s company have the capability to assemble the pictures into an album? Make sure that once you choose a photographer you draw up a list of what you want, what they can do, and how much everything will cost. Tell the photographer about any pictures that you definitely want taken, so that you’re not disappointed when all is said and done. You’ll want to choose someone that is professional and personable. After all, they will be attending your wedding, and you want them to make a good impression on your guests, not to mention make them comfortable, as they will also be having their picture taken.

All in all, it’s not too hard to find a wedding photographer that will meet all your wants and needs. It will take some work, but once you determine what you want, review candidates’ portfolios, meet prospects, and work out a plan, there’s no reason that the visual documentation of your wedding shouldn’t be every bit as special and thrilling as the day itself.
